  • Drive the Scenic Crown Range Alpine Road
  • Views of the Rob Roy Glacier
  • Drive the Matukituki River Valley

Overview

Our tour begins by taking us along the Crown Range Alpine Road, the highest main road in all of New Zealand at 1,121 meters, offering impressive views of the lowlands below and toward Central Otago.  We will arrive in Wanaka, which is a lovely holiday resort town nestled among breathtaking scenery on the southern shores of Lake Wanaka in the heart of the Southern Lakes District. It serves as the gateway to Mt. Aspiring National Park and the dramatic Matatuki Valley.

After heading through Wanaka, we make our way to one of the most popular hikes in New Zealand, the Rob Roy Glacier Walk. We begin low in the valley before crossing the West Matukituki River by swing bridge into a beech forest. A climb up the valley provides views of the river and some waterfalls along the Rob Roy River before coming to alpine terrain.  From a lower lookout, you can get some views of the scenery to come before we continue climbing along the track, eventually gaining impressive views of the Rob Roy Glacier for an excellent photo opportunity!
