Taught through Peak Safety LTD.

The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) course is the leading standard for outdoor safety and accident management in New Zealand.  This course is designed to equip you to manage medical accidents or emergencies in the backcountry.  Taught by experts at Peak Safety, the course focuses on personal safety, thorough patient assessment, understanding plans for treatment and triage, and developing sound evacuation strategies for continued patient care.

Throughout the course, students will become familiar with basic medical terminology, basic emergency care equipment such as defibrillators and BP cuffs, as well as various resuscitation techniques.  The course also teaches problem solving and critical solutions for the extreme circumstances when this equipment is not immediately available.   This course is both intellectually and physically demanding, so be prepared to soak up information and stay focused.

The course is designed for those leading small or medium sized groups in the outdoors, and remains the industry standard for outdoor professionals.  Upon completion, participants receive a first aid PHEC certificate that is valid for 2 years, and can be renewed with a 2-day refresher course.
